AMERICAN Kestrel

North America’s littlest falcon, the American Kestrel is also one of the most colorful raptors. Male’s have slate-blue brow and wings and a rust colored back and tail; the female has the same warm reddish on her wings, back, and tail. You’ll see Kestrel’s hunting for insects and other small prey in open fields where they’ll perch on wires and tops of trees, or hovering in place by facing into the wind, flapping and adjusting their tails.
