GREAT BLUE HERON

We don’t get a lot of them but if you have a pond or a creek on your property you might be getting occasional visits from the Great Blue Heron, the largest heron in North America. They don’t move very fast but they love to forage by standing still or walking very slowly in shallow water, waiting for fish to swim near, then rapidly grabbing them with their bill. They are also known to eat frogs, turtles, rodents or even other birds.
