LESSER GOLDFINCH
Like many birds, the plumage colors on the Lesser Goldfinch will vary depending on the region. Adult males in our area are bright yellow below with a black cap that goes from the bill to the back of the head, a dull green back and white patches in their black wings. Adult females lack the black head cap, have olive backs and are often a duller yellow unpderparts.
They travel in groups so if you see one Lesser Goldfinch, there are probably another ten or more nearby. If you want to see them flock to your yard, put out some Nyjer (NI-jerr) seed.
