NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD

If you’re woken up in the middle of the night by a bird singing it’s heart out…loudly…the culprit is probably the Northern Mockingbird. They are a beautiful but insistent songster that will carry on late in the day and even later into the summer night –singing his heart out, establishing his territory and trying to attract a mate. Generally a loner, you can sometimes  see these cocky birds chasing off a crow or hawk that has invaded their space.
