OAK TITMOUSE
Once called a Plain Titmouse, the Oak Titmouse is still about as plain as a bird can be. These small birds are gray-brown above and paler below with a short crest on their head. The Oak Titmouse makes up for their drabness with energy. They seem to be constantly in motion and will race in, grab a seed and immediately fly off with it. Mates pair for life and both partners will noisily defend their territory year round. The pairs or family parties travel together, flitting quickly from place to place looking for insects and seeds while calling to each other.
Curious about the origin of the name? In Old English, tit means small and mase meant bird and over the years, mase later became mouse. Basically, titmouse means small bird.
