WESTERN BLUEBIRD

The Western Bluebird is very social and usually feed in small flocks during the non-breeding season.  They like to hunt for insects from a low perch in a tree or fence post and then dropping down on them.

Male Western Bluebirds are considerably flashier than females with their bright blue top, head and tail with a rust colored vest. Females lack the vibrant colors and instead are gray-tan on top and head with a pale orange on the breast and blue tints to the wings and tail. Juveniles look similar to females but with spots on the back and streaks on the breast.
